  • Imagine living in a country where petrol prices fluctuate between 1.5 to 2 Euros per liter (5.5 to 7 usd per galon..), where service costs are like ~500 usd for brake pads or 2500 usd for transmission oil and ac recharge or insurance costs are ~1.5K usd for a 13yo renault scenic 1.6L family car. A country where ALL cars rust in a rate faster than taycan's or model S's accelerates to 60... Any mistake in car choise might mean a major financial setback for any average income family. Such country is Norway, where I live. Here car choise is extremely important. And here we have been having the highest percentage of EV's per capita in the world since 2014 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plug-in_electric_vehicles_in_Norway). You think it is a coincidence? Ehm I don't think so. It is as coincidential as the demand for Tesla's worldwide.. As a buyer, my history of car preference has been typical and influenced by media and general consensous. So I went from quality-cutting edge (or so I thought..) "German" engineering to lower cost-specs value for money (much better than I thought!!) to EV's (revelation!)! So I transitioned from Audis-BMWs (lost so much money and had so much frustration..) to the likes of Renaults (so much better and undervalued than I thought..) to EVs such as Leafs and Teslas (oh yes finally). And my money bleed went from critical/no-recovery to sustainable to "oh my god". Mind you this transition went along with car-driving enjoyment increase! Over this period I also realised how misguided I have been and realised media's role to this due to their connection to established Auto industry. I was fighting for my automotive "life" and luckily electrification saved me. I can go on for ever on this subject but the bottom line is that the average consumer is like me and for the average consumer like me EV's are THE solution. THE obvious choise. I am an engineer and I know that this solution was there very very long ago.. Long before Tesla launched their first model S.. So when EV's came to the scene with totally viable solutions around 2010-2012 (my primary commute car to this day is still a TESLA S P85..) what did the media and Hariss's & Clarckson's did? They either totally ignored, ridiculed or fought against them. They did that despite people buying them like hot cakes, despite their impecable crash test results, despite their OBVIOUS economical and driving advantages that even a 5 yo (let alone a higly experiened car journalist) could highlight. Why? Was it oversight? Was it ICE love emotions? Well yes to a certain extend. But oversighting for 15 years? Come on we are adults. They mainly did because established ICE manufacturers were not ready (and still aren't..) and were threatened. If that is not a proof of their inherent (media - auto industry) relationship what is? So after one and half decade of ignoring the millions of EV sales globally - ridiculing cars such as my S P85 which has had 0 costs and issues HERE in icy Norway they are now telling us EV are here? How come? To me it is clear that traditional EV manufacturers are now feeling a bit more confident with their EVfication production and can now launch a marketing campaign. To me, with regards to EVficaion, established media and auto industry are like a market criminal (more than that actually) who consciously commited crimes for decades, then during trial used their money for delays and charges avoidance and now they are back advertising and asking me to trust them! But as I said, we are adults. The issue remains. I(we) have lost tons of money, planet is not a better place and all this due to misleading (and my(our) own blindness of course!). So if there is anything I can do to influence or change this I will. I vote to writte comments like this when I can and make sure I boycott products and journalism of this kind, as long as it does not harm me or the general interest. So even if Taycan and Porsche are finally here (after 15 years..) and are ready to fight for the drag strip trophy or whatever, I choose to pass due to matters of principle.. And with regards to Chris Hariss's and Clarckson's etc Iwould remind them that journalism is mainly based around your audience-viewers-readers interests, sensing their needs and making sure that these are served first and not some powerful aumotomotive interests no matter what incentives they offer...

  • btw, people who think the Tesla Model S is equivalent to the Taycan, simply don't know much about cars, and probably never did/will. They probably never do a track day, and they almost certainly will never take a Model S to one. :)

West Coast Supercars and ClassicsWest Coast Supercars and Classics8 måneder siden
  • Haha, all the comparisons with the Tesla Model S would stop immediately if someone offered you either car for free. You'd have the Taycan, and you know it. Especially if you were allowed to go and custom design every frigging detail, as you CAN with Porsche, from rims, tires, exterior colours galore, trim levels galore, regular seats, sports seats, leather or Race-Tex, or Aluminum or Carbon trim, extra screens, night vision, terrain-mapping InnoDrive, etc etc etc. Did I mention the suspension/handling packages and options? No I didn't. Does Tesla offer these? No, it doesn't. But ok, a model S, if you preheat the batteries and don't try to keep at it, will go fast to 60mph. Fine. Apart from that, it's not comparable. /rant

West Coast Supercars and ClassicsWest Coast Supercars and Classics8 måneder siden
    • @Charlie Chuck1 Well, the roadster isn't a car you can buy today, I don't know when it will be on the market. And even then, Porsche will also have an electric hypercar, which will compete with the roadster. Porsche is fully committed to EV's this is only the first one of many to come. Tesla will have a hard time competing with Porsche in Porsche's territory, just as others do.

West Coast Supercars and ClassicsWest Coast Supercars and Classics8 måneder siden
    • You wouldn't on a practical and realistic price point of view ( 2 of the most important things people consider when buying a car) a better comparison would be with the new Tesla roadster which will absolutely spank that tycan in every performance aspect go and research it yourself

    FreshlySnipesFreshlySnipes8 måneder siden
    • Sebastian Nolte but it doesn’t have a turbo. It’s a ridiculous name. All the turbo versions of Porsche have a turbo... soooo yea

      FreshlySnipesFreshlySnipes8 måneder siden
    • @West Coast Supercars and Classics " agree, just call it 'S' or 'RS'. " I already explained it: There is already an "S" Version, at the moment it is the entry version, probably there will an even cheaper version without the S. Calling the trim levels "4S", "Turbo" and "Turbo S" just matches with the other Porsches and you know what you get. And you cannot compare it with the "e-tron GT", because that is the name of the car itself (like "Taycan"), not of the trim level.

      Sebastian NolteSebastian Nolte8 måneder siden
    • Yup, it's dumb. Audi, which is going to make the sister car, called e-tron GT, won't use 'turbo'. I agree, just call it 'S' or 'RS'. Just silly

West Coast Supercars and ClassicsWest Coast Supercars and Classics8 måneder siden
    • RS would not fit, maybe there will be an RS version later. They just use the exact same naming scheme that they use for the other cars. So when you know how Porsche calles the trim levels of their cars, then you know what you get. Because also there the name "turbo" doesn't tell you anything about the technology. Well, yes, before the Taycan the "turbos" at least have a turbocharger. But the point is: The non-turbo versions have one, too! At the moment you can choose between a Taycan 4S, a Taycan turbo and a Taycan turbo S. So probably in the Future there will be a even a cheaper version ("Taycan 4") or maybe even an RWD version ("Taycan", but I think that is unlikely). What do you think is the different between a Panamera 4S and a Panamera Turbo? The turbo has more power. That's it. The name doesn't tell you which technology was used to get more power. Actually the 4S has a V6 and the Turbo has a V8 - but both are turbocharged. And here it is the same. And for example the "turbo S" version is always the top model of a Porsche (beside some special GT or R version, which are more race cars), that for example has ceramic brakes. So again, the name is not misleading - it is the opposite. You know what you get and you can categorize the different versions of the Taycan.

They were never about electric mobility. They are just brand fetishists who want to compensate for something by identifying with this stuff and by feeling technologically and morally superior. And everybody else neets to be ridiculed and destroyed to maintain that high ground. Some psychologist really should write a book about that phenomenon. It's a cult.
